End Idling
If you read my previous rant you know how upset I am at those who idle their vehicles and poison our world. A few months ago, I was discouraged that my simple act of asking individuals to shut off their engines was not having enough impact. My ‘new to Canada’ neighbour especially drives me crazy as he runs his diesel fuelled GMC extended van every morning for 20 minutes no matter what the weather. We’ve had a few delightful confrontations which usually end with him yelling: “You, woman, go in house. I do what I want!” He even pounds his chest. I’m not kidding. That’s when I decided to produce an ‘end idling’ commercial. Luckily I know some very talented people who jumped on board. Here is the result. (I’ll be sending my neighbour a thank you note for being the push behind the project).

Excellent work Sue, this is so funny I just about peed my pants!! I’m gonna send this around for all to see.

Hey ! That’s awesome! Many of us have moments of clarity where we see things for what they are; and do nothing. Thankyou for doing something. There used to be a thing called the star award — saw trouble and responded. Well you saw trouble and responded on behalf of the planet, cool.
Thanks for allowing Martinizing by Dan & the Gang to be a small part of the process, it was our priveledge and honour.
And really; such fun people too. True Calgarians! lol

That was funny! But you do have to realize that NEW CANADIANS left their country because it’s already ruined and polluted…or PISSED on.

Well I’ll be damed…truth in advertising once and for all !
April 5th, 2010 at 3:03 pm

Must admit I was taken a-back at first, but the ending closes the loop. Bravo!
How about translating the lyrics, though?
Well done!
April 12th, 2010 at 4:31 pm
Fantastic Sue! I will send it far and wide.
April 12th, 2010 at 4:51 pm

Cool ad, saw a link post on my daily spin through treehugger.com, very funny. Then I decided to read your site, ….wow. Just a tip, same advice I give my students, if you really want to save the planet stop harassing people on the street, get involved and help shape public policy. Less hate, more results. Until you can power your appliances on your smug sense of self, it’s just useless noise.

Thanks so much for your comment. I tried to find the link on treehugger.com but couldn’t find it. Can you direct me? Also thanks for introducing me to treehugger. I will be a constant viewer.

Well, sure hit the nail on the head with this one. I just wish that you had someone taking a leak out of their car while waiting for their latte in the drive thru and talking on their phone…Such great work, Sue. Thanksfor giving a piss about Beck and Archer’s future and spreading the message.
Love you cause you care deeply. Xo Us

Sue, Loved it and your site. Thank you for demanding I watch it. I also promise to put the toilet seat down from now on.
April 25th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
obviously you are all white collar workers who have no idea while you’re riding your bikes to your nice little offices, unfortunatly gas cost alot and when you own and operate a construction company, you realize that diesel is somewhat cheaper while building big houses for your bosses…and city infastructure. The trucks need to run for 20 mins start and shut down….maybe you should all move to small towns and enjoy nature as you obviously arent being realistic about big cities in growth.this has nothing to do with the fact that your neighbor is from another country,….shame on you!!
April 30th, 2010 at 11:29 am
Sue, this is a fantastic ad!!! I wish it were in the English language also, maybe an “instead of idling your car…try this instead…”
Bib, I promise to put the toilet seat up, I’m liberated.

If you think that diesel engines need to run for 20 minutes, then you are sadly mistaken. Do some research and you will find that is ancient thinking. Modern diesel engines do not need much time to be in running condition.

Sue,
. lol)
It’s Zach here (Aka Pee’er #1.
Well I just wanted to say congrats on such a wonderful commercial/concept as well as having the commercial win some awards.
Just an update for you that I thought was pretty humorous. I was at the Kilt and Caber in Mackenzie Towne as well as the Bull and Finch in Evergreen over the weekend(Dec 3/4, 2010) and when I went to the washroom at both locations, well low and behold while I was standing at urinal doing my business a video came on in front of me for a Chevrolet Cruze, then BAM the sound of that French song and everyone peeing was playing right before my eyes, I burst out laughing with happiness, wonder and excitement(The dude beside me thought I was nuts or drunk. lol). But the main reason I was laughing was that your Commercial is about Anti Idling/cutting down on emissions, and yet the commercial before it was a car commercial with shots of it parked and idling.
